Welcome to RE

VLE

RE is about what people think about themselves and the world.  We ask students to study the beliefs, values and attitudes of others and reflect on their own beliefs and values.   Our course is both challenging and rewarding for all students.  As part of their course students will meditate, discuss, give speeches, act, write, do the conga, disagree, listen, consider, challenge others, type, watch, question, cry, laugh, sing and dance.  RE helps prepare students for the wider world enabling them to develop respect and sensitivity to others; challenge their own values and beliefs, and realise that they can disagree with the beliefs and values of others and still be friends.

OFSTED's comments on the RE department:

“The subject makes a very significant contribution to students’ spiritual, social, moral and cultural development”

“Teachers use interesting strategies to encourage students and to capture their interest. Videos are used most effectively to illustrate ideas and to provoke debate. The best teaching is challenging and has good pace and vitality that stimulate students’ interest and encourage them to express their views, give reasons and apply their knowledge about the issues they have studied. The good planning and good subject knowledge of teachers are particularly successful in Years 10-11. Lessons are designed to develop students’ thinking and empathy skills and give opportunities for them to reflect upon the topics they study.

The good features noted at the last inspection have been maintained and the promotion of students’ personal development has improved markedly.” (2004)
