Chantry High School is part of wave 6 of the national BSF programme.  Along with a number of other local schools we are in the first wave from Suffolk.  These schools have been selected based on Social Data and Exam results. 

There is a finite amount of funds available which is based on a formula that takes account of pupil numbers and the square metres each pupil requires.  This ‘pot’ equates to somewhere in the region of £150 million.  The division of funding needs to broadly match government set criteria of 50% rebuild; 35% remodelling; 15% refurbishment.  Recent indications suggest that as a school we might expect something in excess of £14 million for a major refurbishment and up to £23 million for a rebuild. 

In order to satisfy limitations of the funding process, wave 6 is likely to have 2 sample schools selected that will in effect test the market in this region.  Indications are that we could potentially be earmarked as one of the sample schools that will be rebuilt, however this has not been confirmed.

Potentially in five years time we could be an ultra-modern learning centre that acts as a community complex serving the whole cluster.  We are continuing our meetings with the Local Authority (LA) and have formed a group of interested stakeholders to work on developing our vision for a new school.  This vision will become our Strategy for Change that has to be submitted to the Local Authority by September 2008.
