When you come to the Library you will meet Mrs Johnson, your Librarian and Mrs Dye, your Library Assistant. They are both happy to answer any questions about the Library, help with coursework/research or suggest a good read! KS3 classes visit the Library regularly in English and Humanities lessons to find out about good new authors and learn how to research topics they are interested in. KS4/5 students visit the Library individually or in small groups during lesson times to undertake research, complete coursework or study independently. We hope that you will visit us after school as well, when the Library is open until 4.30 pm (most days) for homework, changing books, and accessing the internet. We have a team of friendly pupil librarians who can help you after school.
We have 14 PCs linking into the worldwide web, which students can access with parental permission. We run lots of events in the Library, with competitions, book fairs and visits from authors and storytellers. In 2007-8 we met Chris d’Lacey, Cathy Cassidy, Norman Silver, Hugh Lupton and Malcolm Rose (who worked with students for a week, developing some superb murder mystery stories).)

KS3/4 students can borrow up to 3 items with their school library card: fiction (stories), non-fiction (information books) or story tapes/CDs. We have a huge range of fiction, from Cathy Cassidy to Anthony Horowitz to Alice Walker, and an even bigger range of non-fiction on everything from cars to climate change. KS5 students can borrow up to 6 items. We also have a good range of newspapers, magazines and journals, and an extensive reference collection including dictionaries, encyclopedias and statistical sources. These are available for use in the Library (although some may be borrowed on short loan only.) The system is easy to learn, and you will soon find your way around. We can also link into the Suffolk public library system for more specialist resources, and virtual reference tools such as an online newspaper and journal database.
