Parents have a legal duty to ensure that their children attend school.

However, if your child is unwell or unable to attend school for any reason we ask that parents telephone the school before 8.30am (or before 1.00pm if your child is not returning after lunch). Should we not hear from you we shall contact you either by telephone or by text message during the first half day of absence. For parents not on the telephone a letter will be sent by first class post. We feel that such a system for checking on absence is in everyone’s interest.

Please also be sure to fill in the absence slip in the Student Planner as soon as possible.

If your child is well enough to learn at home, please ask the Year Manager to send home some of the work that has been missed.

Good school attendance is important to enable young people to achieve and thrive in positive relationships within school. We should all be aiming for 100% attendance and we look to maintain an attendance of over 95% for every child. Missing just 5% of school is equivalent to around two weeks absence over the school year.

At Chantry High School we operate a ‘Traffic Light’ system for attendance. A letter is sent half termly indicating your child’s attendance for that half term and in total at the end of the academic year. Regular good attendance is rewarded via our reward structure. Through this system we can also support students who are having difficulties with their attendance.

The school is no longer able to authorize holidays during term time.

Please ensure your child gets to school on time. Punctuality is very important and the habit of late arrival impacts significantly on achievement at school.
