INTERNATIONAL LINKS – THE VAUBAN CONNECTION
October 2008 Our link with the Collège Vauban in Calais was launched following meetings between Mr Scholey from Chantry and Monsieur Brasseur and Mlle Sérazin from Vauban. Our Year 7 pupils sent letters and e-mails to their penpals in Calais. Approximately 270 pupils from the two schools were involved.
May 2009 Pupils from Vauban visited Chantry for the first time. They toured the school to observe some lessons, took part in a rounders tournament then went to do some shopping in Ipswich before they headed for home.
Chantry pupils tried to make a return visit a few weeks later and got to within about 3 kilometres of the school but there was a port workers strike and they weren’t able to land in France L !
May 2010 Vauban pupils visited Chantry again in and this time we were successful in making a return visit in June. The pupils had a typical French school lunch then took part in various activities in a medieval festival.
2010-2011 A new cohort of Year 7’s now has penfriends in Calais. They have already sent letters of introduction and Christmas cards and are preparing a ‘Life In Chantry High School’ project to be sent off to Vauban at Easter. We also have some trips planned: Vauban pupils will visit us in May for a Roman outing and Chantry will sample Calais in June.
