Links with Uganda
Three members of staff from Chantry High School visited Buhumba Foundation College in Uganda to work with staff and students there. We developed learning and teaching ideas, and worked around the theme of sustainability and the community.
In October 2011, Mr Fell, Ms Thorne and Miss Bailey returned to develop the themes, and also introduced some PE teaching as well. (Go to Chantry TV to view the videos.)
In addition, we have been working with the People’s Garden, Maidenhall, and the Royal Horticultural Society to develop a Ugandan Garden to be maintained by the cluster schools, and community groups. This will form part of our Global Partnership link with Buhumba Foundation College.
The Beans Means Brains Lunch Project organise fundraising events to help provide food for the school children. Without these lunches, the children would not be able to complete a full day at school. As the school is on an island, children have to travel from their homes on other islands, often walking a long way, then travel by canoe across the lake. If they went home for food at lunchtime, they would not return due to the distances travelled. This does not help teaching and learning.
If you would like further information about this project, please email info@beansmeansbrains.org.uk or register with www.everyclick.com/beansmeansbrains which raises money for the project by just surfing the net.
