Strengthening Families

This term Chantry High School has for the third time, played host to the Strengthening Families Programme. A seven week programme for parents and their young people, aged 10-14 years, it is an opportunity to build and strengthen relationships by improving communication, learn about each other, develop strategies and have fun together. During the first hour parents and their young people work separately in their groups. The parent session is led by a DVD with opportunities for discussion while the young people participate in a number of activities. There is then a 30 minute break during which refreshments are shared before commencing the final hour, the family session, where the elements of the earlier sessions are brought together. Included is a positive activities programme for the youngsters over the half term holiday. The programme is led by Carole Williams from Ipswich Borough Council supported by a variety of other professionals such as parent support advisors and youth workers as well as school support staff.
