Ipswich Parenting Hub

The Ipswich Parenting Hub running at Chantry High School is gaining momentum with more parents returning each month and new parents coming along to see what is on offer.

On 5 December our guest speaker was Tony Bergdahl who offered some vital information and ideas around Finance and Budgeting for Families. This was particularly valuable in the current climate where many families are increasingly finding it a struggle to cope with rising prices. With Christmas fast approaching and the additional financial stresses this can bring the session was well timed. Some simple strategies and awareness of the support available left all with ideas to take away.

The New Year was welcomed in on 6 January with a lively, humorous and highly entertaining session delivered by Giles Barrow looking at the emotional development of the teenager.

He set aside the rather fatalistic linear approach to life with opportunities missed, being opportunities lost, to a more optimistic approach to the emotional development of young people. He discussed how the behaviours and development of very young children from birth to about six years of age are revisited as they progress towards and through adolescence and the teenage years. This more optimistic view offers that opportunities lost can be revisited and addressed at another stage. As he described the behaviours in this cyclical approach all in the room were able to identify with and reflect upon either the behaviour of their young people and/or the responses of themselves. The session ended with all leaving in a positive frame of mind that they are not facing these difficulties alone and armed with strategies and ideas to move forward.

Future sessions:

Friday 3 February with Stacey Ford from Parent Partnership offering a session on The ADHD Factor.

Friday 2 March with Julia Wunderlich,PMHS, offering a session on Self Care and Health Care

The Hub is about acknowledging that we all, as parents, can learn and gain support from one another and have some fun in the process. Whether you are a parent, carer or grandparent please come along and join in and bring a friend too.
