Move to Academy status
(Consultation Meeting 17 May 2012)
The Governing Body has been consulting with parents, staff and the community since March 2011 on proposals
to become an Academy.
There has been considerable support from parents, students and the local community and we would now like to formally ask you to agree that:
Chantry High School should become an Academy?
Please email your views to academyconversion@chantryhighschool.org.uk

What is an Academy?
- A school directly funded from Government not Local Authority
- Can set it's own curriculum and other arrangements
- Not a private school, no fees etc
- Ofsted etc still applies
Why convert to an Academy?
- It will allow the school to develop its own curriculum and unique character
- Allow the school to work closely with other organisations
Why convert with Suffolk New College?
- Access to high quality technical and vocational curriculum and transition
- Strong links to local employers and other organisations, UCS, ITFC, etc
- Suffolk New College has a strong local prescence
- Long established partnership with Chantry High School
What are the benefits for students?
- High quality curriculum
- Access to high quality facilities
- Better opportunies 14-16 and post 16
- Stable school with exciting future
